A Guide to "Beauty Tools"

While guys pride themselves on knowing the intimate details of a hammer and nails, we ladies fancy ourselves handy in a whole other way - with beauty tools. That said, there are still a slew of them that leave us scratching our heads.

So in the name of perfection, we got the ABC's on Sephora's strangest looking tools. From popping pimples to getting the perfect smoky eye, using the proper beauty tools makes all the difference. Here, our how-to tool guide.

Sephora Complexion Extractor with Lance

Sephora Complexion Extractor with Lance, $18
What it does: Dirty fingernails were never meant to pop whiteheads, but this wonder tool was made for exactly that. How to use it: Steam face first to help soften comedones (blocked pores). Use lance to pierce whitehead, wait for it to break open then gently roll over it with the other side of the tool. Remember to always disinfect with alcohol when finished.

Sephora Professional Mini Heated Lash Curler

Sephora Professional Mini Heated Lash Curler, $16
What it does: This wonder tool does for the lashes what hot rollers do for the hair - leaves a long-lasting curl.
How to use it: Turn on, wait 15 seconds, place comb directly onto lash line, gently lift and comb lashes (just like you would with a mascara brush), hold for a few seconds, then release.

Sephora Double-Ended Blemish Extractor

Sephora Double-Ended Blemish Extractor, $16
What it does: When exfoliating doesn't do the trick, turn to this tool for removing blackheads.
How to use it: First use a hot water compress to soften blackheads. Lay flat side on top of blackhead then apply slow and even pressure until trapped sebum is forced out of the follicle.

Sephora Professional Fan Brush

Sephora Professional Fan Brush, $20
What it does: Made especially for bronzers and shimmer powders, this brush distributes an even wash of color onto the entire face.
How to use it: Drag brush across powder (loose or pressed) and lightly sweep on the entire face, including the forehead and neck, for a natural look.

Sephora Short Handle Flat Eyeliner Brush

Sephora Short Handle Flat Eyeliner Brush, $14
What it does: Gives you a softer, smokier alternative to eyeliners.
How to use it: Press the flat end of the brush into powder shadow then dab and wiggle along the lash line. Smudge with a Q-tip for a super-smoky effect.

Sephora Professional Foundation Brush

Sephora Professional Foundation Brush, $23
What it does: This makeup artist's favorite contours perfectly to curves on the face leaving the complexion with an airbrushed finish.
How to use it: With liquid foundation, pour a dab onto the back of the hand and dip brush into it. When using a cream formula, stroke the brush over the compact. Using paintbrush motions, sweep the brush over the face and use fingers to blend.
